Shade Mix Seedballs

£6.89

Share the gift of a shady-spot wildflower patch — perfect for balconies, window boxes, patios and garden beds that only get dappled sun. Our Shade Mix seedballs contain a curated blend of British native wildflowers chosen to thrive in shadier conditions and to feed bees, butterflies and other garden wildlife. Each tin contains 20 ready-to-scatter seedballs (≈30 seeds per ball) made from clay, peat-free compost and seeds — no digging required, no gardening expertise needed.

Why you’ll love them:

  • Pollinator-friendly: Nectar and pollen plants that support bees, butterflies and beneficial insects.

  • Easy to use: Simply scatter onto soil or compost in spring or autumn — the clay coating protects seeds and removes the need to dig.

  • Perfect for shady spots: Formulated for dappled sun or areas with limited direct sunlight (they’ll also grow in sunnier spots).

  • Eco credentials: UK-sourced native seed mixes, peat-free compost and plastic-free packaging help you rewild responsibly.

What’s in the tin

Each tin contains 20 seedballs; each ball has roughly 30 seeds from a shade-tolerant native mix including Bellflower, Forget-me-not, Meadow buttercup, Meadowsweet, Oxeye daisy, Ragged Robin and Red campion — a blend selected to provide colour and food for wildlife across the season.

Perfect as a gift

A thoughtful, low-effort gift for gardeners, city-dwellers with balconies, school projects and nature lovers. Plastic-free tins and attractive packaging make them an eco-friendly present that helps local biodiversity.

Seedball was founded by conservation scientists to make it easy for people to grow native wildflowers and support pollinators. Seedballs use UK-sourced wildflower seed, peat-free compost and recyclable/compostable packaging where possible, so your purchase helps both bumblebees and more sustainable gardening.

  • Emily & Ana are the creators of Seedball – they want to fill the world with wildflowers.

They are on a mission to help increase the abundance of British wildflowers and wildlife that depend upon them. They believe that if we can all better use whatever space we have available to us (whether a back garden, balcony, window box, little patio etc) together, we can have a hugely beneficial impact on our local ecosystems. The last 50 years has been witness to huge declines in pollinators and other garden wildlife, but together we can really really do something to reverse this.

  • What is a Seedball?

A ball made from seeds, clay, peat-free compost and chili powder.

    Why use Seedballs?

The ball prevents the seeds from being a tasty lunch for birds and insects, thereby increasing the chances of your flowers growing. Plus they’re super easy to use, no digging and no expert knowledge needed!

    What's in the tin?

There are 20 balls in each tin, and around 30 seeds per ball.

    How do I use Seedballs?

Throw onto soil or compost in a garden bed or planter in Spring or Autumn, leaving at least 10cm between each ball. Your Seedball has everything it needs to grow and, once the ball becomes moist and the temperature is right, your seeds will germinate!

What area will my Seedballs cover?

We would usually advise 20 seed balls per square metre, or 3-5 seed balls for a 35cm container.

    Conservation

All seed is responsibly sourced in the UK from Flora Locale accredited suppliers, and only ever use peat-free compost.
